Hot and Dry Produce

On the cusp of autumn, the rain showers are still few and far between. They come and do add water to our Eagle Scout water catchment system. We also bought water from a source to bring and deposit into these large white tanks. We have plans for more rain barrels to catch and hold water.
This water ban and drought in 2026 also informs the growers at Appleton Field about what is best to grow, given the climate. Another stellar Eagle project is the new compost system, which in due time will produce compost – a source for holding moisture.
And we grow, with close to 300 pounds of produce and flowers grown, cultivated, harvested and delivered to local food pantries, where we seek to show and shower the people with a variety of healthy food like kale, chard, potatoes, zucchini, dahlia bouquets, tomatoes and carrots-to name just a few.
We will welcome the rain and work with the soil and the sun and Autumn.
